The Samurai Warriors saga is well known in the MUSOU universe. And if the base game was released in 2014. Now it’s finally available on Steam, with a facelift and all 150 DLCs. So yes, it adds quite a bit to what was already available. And we’re going to take a look!

1 vs 1000.

Samurai Warriors 4 DX is, in a way, the deluxe version of the basic game, but also the fourth installment of the Dynasty Warriors spin-off. The difference is that one is set in China, while the other takes place in Japan. In terms of time, we’re in the Sengoku era, at the time of the great civil war. All this in an era that will end with the unification of the great families: the Edo Era.

And what better way to discover the history of the title than to choose one of the 55 combatants in the story mode, which can be played both solo and in co-op. But also online or locally. Because yes, the strength of this saga is that it can be played in every possible way. Count on no less than fifty chapters to complete, knowing that content is also unlocked once the story is finished.

Tactical choxi.

Let’s face it, Samurai Warriors 4 DX doesn’t shine in terms of gameplay. After all, it’s still the classic system. You choose your battle, your character and your stuff. Then we look at the battle map with the objectives, and there we are, plunging into battle alone against all. And yes, the NPCs present aren’t particularly helpful.

The strength of the title lies in the fact that many of the objectives are secret, requiring you to search the map from all sides to discover them. And the same goes for legendary equipment. This is the great strength of the title. It’s not just a linear battle. But to push the player to reduce the number of opposing enemies to 0. Especially since experience and gold will help you progress, so you don’t find yourself facing a wall of difficulty when the opposing NPCs become more powerful.

Your level-ups will also be useful for your combos. Because the more your character progresses. The more he’ll have access to new techniques. Just like his ultimate attack, which can take out a hundred soldiers with a single keystroke.
After a good twenty hours, you’ll finally have finished the story mode. And you’ll be ready for the Chronicle Mode.
A fun mode in which you create your own officer to take part in the battles you’ve seen all over Japan. A mode that will also add a good twenty hours to the counter. And that’s just as well, since Samurai Warrior 4 DX is still one of the saga’s best.
Finally, there’s not much bad to say about Samurai Warriors 4 DX. The title’s enormous content is still there, and the graphics are still pretty despite the weight of age. It’s the episode I find the best of all even now… Its only flaw is the camera, which will drive you crazy in combat or in enclosed spaces. Too bad it hasn’t been corrected over time. But once you’ve got past that problem. You’re looking at a title that’s not afraid to say it’s already 10 years old!
