Today, The Pokémon Company International unveiled the new expansion to the popular Pokémon Scarlet and Purple Trading Card Game – Obsidian Flames. It will be available in all participating stores worldwide from August 11, 2023.
The upcoming Scarlet and Violet – Obsidian Flames expansion will introduce Pokémon-ex Teracrystal whose type has changed in the Pokémon CCG, and some Pokémon-ex Teracrystal will require Energies of a different type to their new type. For example, Trainers will discover Shatterbolt-ex as a Dark-type Pokémon instead of its usual Fire type, and Tyranocif-ex as an Electric type instead of its usual Fighting or Dark type. When attacking, Teracristal Pokémon-ex use the same Energy type as their usual type, but their Weakness will correspond to their new type. These cards will also follow the same rules as traditional Pokémon-ex: when knocked out, Teracristal Pokémon-ex whose type has changed will offer two Reward cards instead of one.
Among the most noteworthy cards, the expansion contains :
- 15 Pokémon-ex and 6 Pokémon-ex Teracrystal;
- 12 « rare illustration » Pokémon
- 6 « special rare illustration » Pokémon and Supporter cards
- 12 « ultra rare » Pokémon-ex and Supporter cards, fully illustrated and textured ;
- 3 « hyper rare » gold textured cards.
Scarlet and Violet – Obsidian Flames will be available in boosters, Elite Dresser Boxes and special collections in participating stores.
In addition, prior to the release of the tabletop version, Trainers will be able to play Scarlet and Violet – Obsidian Flames digitally via the Pokémon Live app on iOS, Android, macOS and Windows on August 10, 2023. Upon connection, the Scarlet and Violet Battle Pass – Obsidian Flames will reward players with a new deck featuring Dark-type Dracofeu-ex. An additional premium deck with Terracruel-ex can also be unlocked by exchanging Crystals, earned by completing daily quests.
