With two million customers, Swappie consolidates its position as Europe’s leading iPhone refurbisher with a focus on sustainability

Swappie continues its transformation and becomes a major sustainability player in the refurbished electronics market, laying the foundations for accelerated growth on a European scale

In 2023, Swappie recorded sales of 207.3 million euros, confirming its position as the undisputed leader in the refurbished electronics sector. On the strength of this success, the company will continue its efforts to optimize its processes, consolidate its position as a major player in the refurbishing of iPhones in Europe, and maintain its leadership in the majority of the markets in which it operates.

Swappie is committed to making refurbishing a mainstream practice,” said Emma Lehikoinen, Chief Operating Officer at Swappie. “Our optimized strategy, combined with targeted investments, enables us to make a lasting impact in all our markets. Thanks to our intuitive online buy-back service, consumers easily resell their old iPhones to Swappie, extending their lifespan and enabling us to offer quality refurbished electronic devices to as many people as possible. This approach helps to reduce electronic waste, while giving concrete expression to our vision of a circular economy.”

The EIB supports innovation

In 2024, Swappie secured a 17 million euro loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) under the InvestEU program. This funding will enable Swappie to invest in research, development and robotics, to guarantee a faster, more reliable reconditioning process. This investment demonstrates Swappie’s determination to be at the forefront of innovation in the field of reconditioning, and underlines its commitment to the wider circular economy.

Future prospects

While continuing to expand its presence across Europe, Swappie remains committed to its vision of the circular economy. By making it easy for customers to sell their old iPhones and buy quality refurbished devices, Swappie is setting new standards in responsible consumption.

“At Swappie, we believe in a future where technology is both sustainable and accessible to all,” says Martine Hardeveld Kleuver, Country Lead for the Netherlands and Belgium at Swappie. “By giving iPhones a second life, we not only reduce electronic waste, but also offer consumers an affordable alternative without compromising quality. Our refurbished devices pass rigorous quality checks to ensure that they are as reliable as new devices. It’s great to see that two million customers have already made this conscious choice. We hope this is just the beginning, and call on consumers and policymakers alike to continue working with us to build a circular economy where waste has no place.”
