After years of anticipation, Sid Meier and Firaxis Games finally bring us Civilization VII. The promise? An opus that builds on the best of its predecessors, while adding a host of new features. So, does this new episode live up to our ambitions as conquerors? Here’s our verdict after a few (too many?) sleepless nights shaping our empire.

History: your own legend, even richer

As always, Civilization VII gives you the chance to rewrite history in your own way. But this time, the game places even greater emphasis on narrative and the choices that shape your civilization. Leaders have even stronger personalities, historical events are more numerous and narrative quests immerse you in epic tales. You really feel like you’re living a great saga every time you play.

Gameplay: More depth, more strategy

In terms of gameplay, Civilization VII takes up the mechanics that have made the series so successful, but with a few welcome adjustments. Districts are more flexible, wonders have more varied effects and the diplomatic system is more complex. We also appreciate the new units and technologies, which bring new strategic options. Economic and cultural management is more advanced, offering an even richer gaming experience.

Lifespan: do you have time?

Civilization VII, like its predecessors, offers an almost infinite lifespan. Between the different civilizations, difficulty levels and game modes, there’s enough to keep you busy for hundreds of hours. And with mod support, replayability is even greater.

Music and graphics: a feast for the eyes and ears

Civilization VII takes a technical leap forward. The graphics are magnificent, with detailed environments and fluid animations. As for the soundtrack, it’s as good as ever, with epic musical themes that perfectly match the game’s atmosphere. You really get the impression of traveling through the ages.

Verdict: The King Is Still on His Throne

Civilization VII is an excellent strategy game that manages to renew the formula while retaining the essence of the series. We appreciate the depth of the gameplay, the richness of the story, the colossal lifespan and the quality of the production. If you’re a Civilization fan, you won’t be disappointed.
