The Atelier series returns with an enchanting new opus: Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories and the Dream Land. We take on the role of Yumia, a young alchemist full of dreams. So, is this new adventure a successful recipe? We’ve put our hands to the grindstone to give you our verdict.
A gentle, enchanting tale
Atelier Yumia plunges us into a warm, colorful world, typical of the Atelier series. The story of Yumia’s search for lost memories in a “Dream Land” is gentle and charming. It’s easy to get carried away by the peaceful atmosphere, endearing characters and often amusing dialogue. It’s the kind of game that’s good for morale.
Successful blend of Alchemy, Exploration and Combat
Atelier Yumia’s core gameplay remains alchemy, with a synthesis system as deep and satisfying as ever. Hours are spent collecting ingredients, experimenting with new recipes and creating ever more powerful items. Exploration is encouraged by pleasant environments full of resources and secrets. Turn-based battles are strategic without being overly complex, and allow you to put the items you’ve created to the test.
A generous alchemical adventure
Atelier Yumia offers a decent lifespan for a JRPG. Between the main quest, the numerous side quests, the collection of ingredients and the completion of the alchemy grimoire, there’s enough to keep you busy for a good thirty hours, or even more for the completists.
A feast for the eyes and ears
Visually, Atelier Yumia is a delight. The graphics are colorful and cute, with adorable character designs and charming environments. The soundtrack, true to the spirit of the series, is made up of catchy, relaxing melodies that accompany the adventure perfectly.
A New Successful Magic Potion for the Atelier Series
Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories and the Dream Land is an excellent addition to the Atelier franchise. It takes the ingredients that have made the series so successful (alchemy, engaging characters, warm atmosphere) while offering a touching new story and an enjoyable world to explore. If you’re a JRPG fan looking for a relaxing, addictive experience, you won’t be disappointed.
