Okay, we’re not going to lie, the story in Starship Troopers has never been the strong point. The remake is no exception. We’re here to kill giant cockroaches, period. And that’s just fine! The game perfectly captures the mood of the film, with its patriotic dialogues and tongue-in-cheek humor. It’s like being in a Paul Verhoeven movie! 😎
Gameplay : A cooperative FPS that packs a punch! 🔫💥
The gameplay is nervous and gritty. You take on the role of a Federation soldier and must cooperate with 15 other players to fend off ever-increasing waves of aggressive arachnids. The game features different soldier classes (assault, support, defense) with specific weapons and skills. Fortifications can be built, turrets installed and even vehicles piloted. Shooting sensations are excellent, and the feel of the weapons is well-represented. In short, it’s a real pleasure to shoot bugs! 🤩
Lifespan: Replayability galore! ⏱️
The game features several game modes, including a horde mode where you have to survive as long as possible against waves of enemies. The difficulty is progressive and the arachnids get tougher and tougher. So you’ll want to start over to improve your score and unlock new weapons and skills. The lifespan is therefore potentially very long, especially if you play with friends. 🎮
Music and graphics: Effective, but nothing more 🎵🖼️
Visually, the game is decent without being exceptional. The graphics are rather old-school, but in keeping with the mood of the film. Environments are varied and arachnids are well modeled. The soundtrack is equally effective, with military music that enlivens the action. We only regret the absence of the film’s iconic music. 🎵
Verdict: A fun remake faithful to the spirit of the film! 👍
Starship Troopers: Extermination Remake is an excellent cooperative shooter that will delight both fans of the film and fans of gritty FPS. The gameplay is fast-paced and addictive, the lifespan is long and the atmosphere is faithful to the original. The only drawbacks are the slightly dated graphics and the absence of the film’s music.
