Final Fantasy XVI’s paid downloadable content “La complainte du ressac” to be released on April 18

SQUARE ENIX® announced during PAX East 2024 that the new downloadable content for FINAL FANTASY™ XVI, entitled Lament of the Surf(The Rising Tide), would be available on April 18 for PlayStation®5 consoles. The Rising T ide is the latest downloadable content for this critically acclaimed action-RPG, following the release of the first paid downloadable content, Echoes of the Fallen. Both chapters are available together at a reduced price as part of the FINAL FANTASY XVI Expansion Pass.

Among other things, Lament ofthe Surf unlocks a brand-new story, battles, side quests, weapons, accessories and a maximum level, adding new depth to Clive’s journey before the captivating conclusion of FINAL FANTASY XVI. In Lament of the Surf, an anonymous letter left in the lair for Clive asks him to save the Emissary of Leviathan, the Primordial everyone thought had disappeared. This new downloadable content takes Clive and his companions to the hidden land of Mysidia, where they will discover the tragic history of a people fallen into oblivion.

Players who purchase Lament du ressac or the Expansion Pass will receive a special FINAL FANTASY XVI version of Curtana, the legendary weapon used by the Warrior of Light in FINAL FANTASY XIV, as well as the scores Torn from the Heavens and Through the Maelstrom to set the mood in the Lair.

A free update (Ver. 1.30) will also be available for FINAL FANTASY XVI on the same day as Lament of the Tide, April 18. This update will bring various general improvements to the game, including:

  • The ability to return immediately to the quest-giving character thanks to the new “Quick Return at Quest End” function;
  • Modified icons for important character quests;
  • A new option to define up to five favorite Primordial/Skill settings;
  • Changes to skills and accessories to make them easier to use;
  • The new “Custom” controller configuration type, allowing each button to be freely assigned;
  • Color correction, visual effects and more added to photo mode;
  • Numerous new scores.

The base game, FINAL FANTASY XVI, takes players into an all-new story in the FINAL FANTASY universe, set in the nations of Valisthea. The peace of this epic fantasy twilight world bathed in the light of the Mother Crystals is threatened by the spread of the Black Scourge, which threatens to put an end to their hegemony. The fate of the world is at the mercy of the Primordials, powerful creatures, and the Emissaries, men and women gifted with the ability to summon them and channel their powers. This is the story of Clive Rosfield, a warrior consecrated “Guardian of Rosalia” who has sworn to protect his younger brother, Joshua, the Emissary of Phoenix, the Primordial of fire. Alas, tragedy strikes Clive, making him vow revenge on Ifrit, a dark Primordial who sows misfortune in his path.
