Kingdoms is an all-new game mode for Darkest Dungeon II, released as a free update and comprising three themed adventure modules, starting with Hunger of the Beast Clan. Featuring a completely redesigned game structure, Kingdoms is a parallel experience to the Confessions game mode. Players will have to defend the kingdom against the incursions of new enemy factions. Initially, they’ll have to withstand the relentless onslaught of the Beastmen, rotting on their feet and starving!
“At Red Hook, we like to go against the grain. That’s why, when we asked ourselves how to develop Darkest Dungeon II, we were unconvinced by the obvious reflex of simply adding content. Instead, we decided to rethink the very structure of the game, and from this reflection a whole new game mode was born: Kingdoms.
Kingdoms is a parallel experience to DDII’s main narrative campaign (Confessions), and remixes almost every system in the game. Players will travel from inn to inn on a persistent map of the kingdom, striving to complete a quest before time runs out. They’ll have to defend territories against a new threat, fulfill contracts, improve and protect inns, while alternating the heroes on their teams to give their most exhausted members a rest.
We agree, inflation sucks – which is why all three Kingdoms modules are FREE updates to Darkest Dungeon II!” – Chris Bourassa, Creative Director.
The Inhuman Bondage DLC introduces a new mini-region, The Catacombs, and a new playable hero in Darkest Dungeon II: The Abomination, a character designed in collaboration with contributors to the Kickstarter campaign.
The Catacombs region invites players to plunge with their stagecoach beneath the surface of the kingdom to confront a corrosive, slimy menace. This dangerous but rewarding region features a new faction of enemies and new items, adding variety and challenge to Confessions and Kingdoms modes . The Abomination brings unique mechanics, trinkets, signature items, palettes, weapon kits, and a fully dubbed story, with playable flashbacks.
Darkest Dungeon II is available on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, as well as on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X|S. Kingdoms mode and the Inhuman Bondage DLC will be available on PC from January 27, 2025, with a console release planned thereafter.
