KONAMI and WayForward unveil an explosive new trailer for Contra: Operation Galuga, featuring playable characters and more
Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. and WayForward today announce that Contra: Operation Galuga, the highly anticipated revival of the video game series that defined the run-‘n’-gun genre, will be released digitally on March 12 for Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation®4, PlayStation®5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam®.
To prepare players for the action ahead, an explosive demo is now available to download. The demo, which features content from the title’s first and third levels and can be played by up to 4 players, will unlock bonus content for the full game once completed.
Digital pre-orders are now available for Nintendo Switch™, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, and the game can be added to the wishlist on PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4 and Steam. Contra: Operation Galuga will also be released as a physical edition on April 26 in the EMEA regions, and Limited Run Games will announce pre-orders for the physical version for other regions on March1.
A complete reworking of the groundbreaking 80s NES/arcade game Contra, Contra: Operation Galuga sees players select a character from a group of elite commandos, including hardcore protagonists Bill Rizer and Lance Bean, and race through eight levels to exterminate an alien horde controlled by the Red Falcon terrorist group. Retaining iconic weapons such as scatter fire, bombs and lasers, as well as character-specific abilities such as double jump, slide and grab, Contra: Operation Galuga also adds the “Overload” mechanic for weapons, offering even more offensive and defensive options. Players will be able to enjoy the full intensity of Story, Arcade and Challenge modes.
The adrenalin-packed experience is enhanced by the music, art and story imagined by a group of all-star collaborators. Combining the energy of a summer blockbuster with more classical inspirations, the soundtrack was created by composer Yuko Komiyama and composer Norihiko Hibino, and includes cinematic interpretations of familiar Contra franchise melodies as well as original compositions. The game’s story and script, meanwhile, were conceived jointly with Dai Sato and Naruki Nagakawa of Storyriders Inc. while the title’s main illustration comes from renowned comic book artist David Nakayama. More partners, including the sensational cast of voice actors, will be revealed at a later date.
