Hello Bikini Bottom fans! We put on our square pants to test SpongeBob SquarePants: Patrick Starfish – The Game, and tell you if this new adventure is as crazy as the cartoon!
Story: Patrick superstar… of dreams!
In this game, Patrick is the star of his own dreams (logical!). He explores imaginary worlds inspired by the series, such as Dreamland and Toyland. The story is simple but fun, with dialogue faithful to the absurd humor of the cartoon. All the cult characters are here, from SpongeBob SquarePants to Carlo, Sandy and Plankton. In short, you’re right in the SpongeBob universe!
Gameplay: A fun, accessible platform game
Patrick Starfish – The Game is a classic 3D platformer. You jump, run, pick up objects and fight enemies (with improbable techniques, like belly-throwing!). The gameplay is easy to pick up, even for younger players. The game also features a few puzzle phases and mini-games for variety. It’s not the most original game in the world, but it’s fun and it gets the job done!
Lifespan: A bit short, Bob!
Allow around 5-6 hours to complete the main adventure. That’s a bit short, especially for such a high-priced game. Fortunately, there are plenty of collectibles to find and challenges to complete to extend the lifespan. But then, we’d have liked a little more content…
Music and graphics: faithful to the cartoon!
Visually, the game is very faithful to the cartoon. Graphics are colorful, characters are well modeled and animations are expressive. It’s like being in an episode of SpongeBob SquarePants! The soundtrack is just as good, with lively music and fun sound effects. Special mention goes to the French dubbing, which features the original voices from the cartoon. Nickel! 👌
Verdict: An enjoyable game for Sponge Bob fans
SpongeBob: Patrick the Starfish – The Game is a decent platform game that will appeal mainly to fans of the cartoon. The gameplay is simple and fun, the story is amusing and the technical execution is faithful to the Sponge Bob universe. The only regrets are a slightly short lifespan and a lack of originality in the gameplay.
