Samsung unveils the new Odyssey OLED, Smart Monitor and ViewFinity models for 2024

Samsung today launches its latest Odyssey OLED, Smart Monitor and ViewFinity models. The new range includes much-requested features as well as several unexpected new additions. The Odyssey OLED G8 and Smart Monitor M8 feature new AI functionalities [1], and with the extended connectivity of the ViewFinity series, a complete workspace can be created.

Odyssey OLED with unique protection against screen marking

The new Odyssey OLED models for 2024 are the Odyssey OLED G8 (model G80SD) and the Odyssey OLED G6 (model G60SD).

The new Odyssey OLED G8 is Samsung’s first gaming monitor with AI. The NQ8 AI Gen3 processor, the same processor Samsung uses in its 2024 8K TV, scales the image up to nearly 4K when using the monitor’s Smart TV applications [3]. As a result, users benefit from higher resolution for gaming and series viewing.

Both new OLED models feature Samsung OLED Safeguard . This new patented technology is the first in the world to prevent combustion by adding a pulsating heat pipe to the monitor. What’s more, the Dynamic Cooling System diffuses heat five times more efficiently than the old method. The monitor also automatically adjusts the brightness of static images such as logos and task bars to prevent permanent marking in other ways [4].

Samsung’s new OLED Glare Free technology [5 ] delivers beautiful colors and reduces glare, while maintaining a sharp image, even in daylight. The coating layer optimized for OLEDs ensures there’s no shine or glare.

Both monitors feature a recognizably slim, metallic design. Core Lighting provides ambient lighting synchronized with the screen during gaming and other activities. Long sessions are more comfortable thanks to the ergonomic tilt, swivel and height-adjustable stand.

Smart Monitor M8: AI for crystal-clear video and audio

The Smart Monitor models updated for 2024 are the M8 (model M80D), M7 (model M70D) and M5 (model M50D).

The 32-inch Smart Monitor M8 4K UHD features new AI functionalities, driven by the NQM AI processor. For example, AI can upscale lower resolutions to near 4K [6] and uses the Active Voice Amplifier Pro AI to analyze ambient sounds and optimize sound for users [7]. 360 Audio mode [8] is available on the M8, giving users equipped with Galaxy Buds the impression of being part of the action.

In addition, the Smart Monitor range now features a Workout Tracker,[8] which can be paired with a Galaxy Watch so that users can see real-time health data on screen. This makes it easier and more fun to reach training goals.

Smart TV and Samsung TV Plus apps [ 9] offer direct access to various streaming services and live content, without users needing to boot up a PC or connect to other devices [10].

The M7 is available in 32-inch and 43-inch versions with 4K UHD resolution (3840 x 2160), 300 nits brightness (typical), 60 Hz refresh rate and 4 ms GtG response time. The M5 is available in 27″ and 32″ versions, with FHD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 250 nits brightness (typical), 60 Hz refresh rate and 4 ms GtG response time.

ViewFinity: maximum creativity and ease of use

The latest ViewFinity range has been developed for creative professionals and includes the ViewFinity S8 (models S80UD and S80D), ViewFinity S7 (model S70D) and ViewFinity S6 (models S60UD and S60D).

The monitors [11] are made from at least 10% recycled plastic, without the use of chemical sprays on plastic parts [12]. Packaging uses glue instead of staples, making it easy to dismantle for recycling.

The Easy Setup Stand can be assembled with just one quick click, without the need for tools or screws. Finally, Intelligent Eye Care prevents eye fatigue during long sessions.

The ViewFinity S8 (S80UD and S80D) is available in 27″ and 32″ versions, each with 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution, 60 Hz refresh rate and 350 nits brightness (typical). The monitors also feature a handy USB hub and a height-adjustable stand.

The ViewFinity S7 (S70D) is available in 27-inch and 32-inch versions, each with 4K UHD resolution (3840 x 2160), 350 nits brightness (typical) and a 60 Hz refresh rate. The ViewFinity S6 (S60UD and S60D) is available in 24-inch, 27-inch and 32-inch versions, each with QHD (2560 x 1440) resolution, 100 Hz refresh rate and 350 nits brightness (typical).
