Star Overdrive to be released on Switch on April 10, 2025

Italian studio Caracal Games and publisher Dear Villagers are proud to announce the release date of their highly anticipated open-world sci-fi action-adventure indie game, Star Overdrive. It will arrive on Nintendo Switch on April 10, 2025. The trailer announcing the date is available here.

Journeying through a gigantic alien world, players will face challenging enemies, solve complex puzzles and discover secrets hidden in the various biomes. The game also allows players to customize their hoverboard, modifying its speed, handling and gravity to suit their personal play style or challenge.

When it was revealed during the Nintendo Direct in August 2024, Star Overdrive caught the attention of science-fiction and action-adventure fans. While it draws inspiration from classic open-world action games such as Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a benchmark for the studio, its hoverboard navigation and physics-based powers offer a new experience of its kind.

After intercepting a mysterious distress signal, you’ll embark on a daring adventure on a previously unexplored planet. On this journey, you’ll discover breathtaking landscapes ranging from shimmering deserts to vast aquatic zones, with each biome pushing displacement skills to the limit. Along the way, you’ll encounter the remains of an ancient civilization and discover the mystery behind this intriguing signal.

The combat system on offer is a creative mix of physics-based powers, melee strikes and special hoverboard moves, challenging players to find new ways to thwart opposing strategies and defeat enemies.

Whether gliding at breakneck speed or taking on towering bosses, the hoverboard is the ultimate tool for surviving and exploring the environment. Each challenge brings players closer to the story behind the distress signal, the protagonist’s past and the fate of the galaxy.
