Yo cowboys and cowgirls! After years of anticipation, Red Dead Redemption is finally coming to PC. So, does Rockstar’s masterpiece still hold up in 2023? We saddled up our horses and set off to explore the Wild West to give you our opinion!

Story: an unforgettable twilight western

We’re delighted to return to the poignant story of John Marston, a former outlaw forced to track down his former companions to save his family. The writing is as impeccable as ever, the characters are charismatic and the twilight western atmosphere is beautifully captured. A timeless tale that will stay with you forever!

Gameplay: A timeless classic, with a few wrinkles

The gameplay is pure Rockstar: a gigantic open world to explore, varied missions (heists, duels, hunting…), nervous gunfights and total freedom of action. The game has aged a little in some respects (animations in particular), but the feeling is still there and you’ll have a lot of fun riding across the vast plains.

Lifespan: Content galore!

Between the main story, the many side missions, the side activities (poker, hunting, etc.) and the multiplayer mode (Red Dead Online), you’ve got enough to keep you busy for dozens, if not hundreds, of hours. The game is so rich and immersive that it’s hard to put it down!

Music and graphics: an authentic Western ambience

The soundtrack is as masterful as ever, with folk and country music that perfectly matches the game’s atmosphere. The graphics, on the other hand, are a little dated. The game isn’t ugly, but it’s far from today’s standards. Fortunately, the atmosphere and art direction are as good as ever. You’d think you were in a Western!

Verdict: A classic to (re)discover, despite a few shortcomings

Red Dead Redemption on PC is a great opportunity to (re)discover this video game masterpiece. The story, atmosphere and gameplay are as excellent as ever. The only regret is that the graphics are a little dated and the gameplay mechanics a little dated.
