After announcing at Summer Game Fest that Jason Isaacs will play the big bad in Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios unveiled at the PC Gaming Show the first glimpse in years of Baldur’s Gate, the first iconic city in the Forgotten Realms. Opening with an image of the sprawling waters of the Chionthar River, in-game footage reveals a fully next-gen rendering of this cult location, while the development team discusses the process of recreating Baldur’s Gate for a modern role-playing game. The city of Baldur’s Gate is a metropolis of labyrinthine streets, with alleyways, temples and crowded dwellings teeming with life, and stories woven into the lives of every inhabitant players will encounter. Baldur’s Gate is back and bigger than ever
The city itself is also larger than any previous version. Stretching from the rough roads of the Outer City through the dark alleys of the Lower City to the posh estates of the Upper City, the streets are populated by a rich gallery of characters. Each has his or her own story, well-kept secrets and unique reactions.
Larian had originally envisioned Baldur’s Gate as a series of small, enclosed areas linked by quick accesses, but midway through the city’s development, the studio decided to make some major changes.
At launch, players will enter a Baldur’s Gate consisting of three open-world zones. No loading screens will interrupt their experience, whether exploring underground crypts, wandering the apartments of an imposing citadel or visiting secret cellars.
Players will be able to discover the city for themselves when Baldur’s Gate 3 is released on PC and PlayStation 5 on August 31, 2023. Find out more about Baldur’s Gate 3 on the official website and follow Larian Studios on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and their official Discord server.
