Publisher NACON and Appeal Studios are pleased to release a new video for the cooperative action-adventure game Gangs of Sherwoodin which Game Director Andrea Di Stefano and Art Director Michael Defroyennes discuss the adaptation of the Robin Hood legend.
In Gangs of Sherwoodplayers take on the role of four heroes to choose from among the most iconic characters of the legend: Friar Tuck, Little John, Marian Beauty, and of course Robin Hood. The development teams have also made a point of presenting all the richness of the original lore, notably by highlighting lesser-known characters such as Alan A Dale. The antagonists are not left out, with the charismatic Guy of Gisbourne, usually presented as an assassin in charge of killing Robin Hood, or the Prioress of Kirklees, presumed responsible for the death of Robin Hood.
The story of Gangs of Sherwood offers a unique vision of the Robin Hood legend, centered on a war story, where the heroes are the leaders of a real resistance against the evil Sheriff of Nottingham. Technological progress plays an important role in this universe, giving the medieval world of the game a science-fantasy dimension. » These new advances were made possible by the Lionheart, a singular stone brought back from the Crusades that can alter metal and give it magical properties, » adds Andrea Di Stefano. « These meteoric advances have revolutionized not only transportation but also the way war is fought, and in our case, they have a particular impact on combat, on the way characters interact with enemies, on the powers they can unleash, which makes for explosive and spectacular battles.
During their adventure, players will also explore a wide variety of grand environments, some of which will certainly be familiar to them. Michael Defroyennes explains, « For example, we start with the village of Locksley, which is under siege, and we’ll obviously have other iconic locations like Sherwood Forest and the city of Nottingham. We also wanted to exploit the desolate aspect of the different regions, to show the climate of war that reigns there, but also the pollution side due to the impact of technology on the environment.
