Atomic Heart is not a propaganda game for the USSR even if everything leads to believe it. In this universe where Russia is more powerful than ever and avangardist of technology, all is not going to go for the best. And it is in a big delirium that we will talk about Atomik Heart.
Motherland.
Atomik Heart puts us in the shoes of Major or P-3 for those who know him. Your mission? Understand why robots turned against humans at the dawn of a USSR that could become the greatest world power. Who succeeded in undermining communism?
We will not lie, the pitch is just to set the scene. The goal being above all to shoot and hit everything that moves. Where the title shoots itself in the foot is that it is talkative. But always at the wrong time. Because Our Glove will always talk to us at the worst moment. Or will be cut off without ever resuming his dialogue? Which makes it hard to understand the universe. Not to mention the very small and white subtitles… Fortunately, the title offers us a software totally dubbed in French.
And as far as dubbing is concerned, we won’t say anything, it does the job and it’s of very good quality. So yes, the title is controversial because of a story about a fridge. Fridge that rarely intervenes in the title and it is justified by an AI that kills all humans it meets and is in love with P3. Personally, this surprises and will make more laugh than shock. The internet is much more raw.
It’s big though…
If we take away the title’s story which quickly becomes a pretext for the destruction of communism. We find ourselves in a game super free and especially graphically appealing. The first hours are very corridor and scripted as possible and yet we really enjoy discovering little by little what awaits us.
The downside is that once in the bath, it will take quite some time before taking in hand the title and its specificities. This means that jumping in at the beginning of the game is a bad idea.
Especially since the title is a puzzle from A to Z. You’ll have to deal with a lot of locks and puzzles that require either reflexes or finding the solution via various camera systems and others.
Finally, to get through all this. The title will offer you two systems. On the one hand, a whole arsenal of hand-to-hand weapons and various guns ranging from bullets to electric. You will have to improve them via various resources found on the enemies and chest. But also via plans that you will find hidden everywhere on the map.
The other system is your powers. Elek being the first one will allow you to give a discharge to the enemies. But others will be added later: a shield, a freeze, telekinesis … everything to offer you your favorite way to play.
The strength is also that you are never limited by your choices. You don’t like a power? Forget it and the game refunds your resources. The same goes for weapons. A must for people who like change.
So in the end, Atomik Heart is a very good FPS with a very logical construction and which only offers more and more as you evolve. We would almost ask for more so much the universe took us.
