This is not fiction: it’s real. Alan Wake, star of the critically acclaimed franchise of the same name, arrives in The Fog as Dead by Daylight’s new Survivor. From January 30, players will be able to slip into the shoes of the troubled writer in this collaboration signed Behaviour Interactif and Remedy Games. Players are invited to experience Alan Wake x Dead by Daylight in the limited-time Public Test Build (PTB) on Steam now.

Written in darkness

In the Alan Wake universe, Alan is a talented writer, best known as the author of the best-selling Alex Casey series, including Return to Sender and Sudden Halt. Unfortunately, a vacation in Bright Falls took a sinister turn when he was confronted with a supernatural darkness. The plot of his latest novel, a horror story he didn’t remember writing, began to come to life, and he found himself trapped in Dark Space.

Imprisoned, Alan Wake fights hard to escape. However, his attempt to write his way back to freedom led him straight into the Entity’s clutches, trading one dark place for another.

As I searched for a way out, a bit of light in the darkness, I remembered a script I’d written for Night Springs about a place engulfed in fog. As these memories came flooding back, the same fog surrounded me. Once again, I find myself in an unknown place, trapped. I’ve got to find a way out. I don’t know why, but I know that rewriting this script is essential.

And of course, it wouldn’t be Alan Wake without the actors who bring it to life. Dead by Daylight’s Alan Wake chapter features actor Ilkka Villi, who plays Alan in the scenes shot in real time, as well as Matthew Porretta, who has lent his voice throughout the franchise. Players will hear all-new original soundtracks as Alan Wake faces his final deadly challenge in The Mist.

An ever-evolving repertoire of horror

From film to video games, Dead by Daylight has played host to some of the greatest characters in horror history. With the arrival of Alan Wake, the list of Survivors expands even further, with the addition of an iconic character from one of the greatest horror game franchises. On the heels of the release of the critically acclaimed Alan Wake 2, it’s the perfect time to discover a dark new chapter of the beloved character.

Since its launch in 2010, Alan Wake has had a considerable influence on the Dead by Daylight team,” says Mathieu Coté, Director of Partnerships at Behaviour Interactif. ” Whether it’s themes or specific elements, our two games are already linked in many ways. We’ve always felt that this character would be right at home in the Dead by Daylight universe. Seeing Alan finally join the fog as a Survivor is a real breakthrough, especially as the franchise’s recently released second opus is still fresh in players’ minds.

We’re thrilled and honored to see Alan Wake enter the Fog of Dead by Daylight,” says Sam Lake, Creative Director at Remedy Entertainment. ” From our first enthusiastic conversations about our collaboration with Behaviour Interactif, it was clear that the heritage of the two games was amazingly compatible, drawing on many similar inspirations, a true match… from hell. With the release of Alan Wake 2, the time has come to dive into a new nightmare.

Lights out

The release of this new chapter comes with a special time-limited modifier called Lights Out that adds a new layer of terror to Dead by Daylight. The modifiers are brand-new tweaks to the existing event format that offer players a unique and exciting experience. With Lights Out, players will find themselves in a terrifying atmosphere devoid of many of the key tools they’re used to.

The Lights Out modifier will be implemented in the game in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.

The Dead by Daylight Alan Wake chapter will be available on all compatible platforms on January 30, 2024.
