Review – Mr Run and Jump

Atari continues to adapt cult games, this time with Mr Run And Jump. A simplistic character who can jump, dive and roll. In other words, basic, classic and hardcore.

Run and jump…

The title is similar to all the games in this genre, except that it was one of the pioneers. So this is a modern version that will quickly remind you of Meat Boy or Celeste. Yes, you’ll have to jump from trap to trap, spike to spike and enemy to enemy. Anything that touches you will want you dead.

Graphically, the game is very pretty, a fine tribute to the Atari era, with a black background and neon highlights. Simplistic in its graphics and gameplay. The title is a reminder of the good old days, and above all, you don’t want to overload the screen to make it look great!

While the title offers anecdotal difficulty in its first world. But once you’re past that, goodbye respite… The game becomes increasingly hardcore, quickly requiring you to master rolling and diving. In short, you need to get your moves just right.

Dying again and again…

The difficulty doesn’t come from the character’s movements per se. But as in a forgotten era. The whole thing. Jumps have to be calculated to the millimeter, so much so that you’ll go crazy sticking spikes to make a jump.

And let’s not forget the collectables. They’re here too. On the one hand, you’ll need to collect gems. These won’t be useful for showing off in front of everyone that you’ve managed to collect everything. But to unlock the last world.

Well, there’s not much more to say about the title. It’s a pretty Die and Retry with a lively soundtrack. Fans of Super Meat Boy or Celeste will love the game. Newcomers will understand the meaning of suffering. Yes, you will suffer. However, it’s worth noting that the title is well mastered and that its difficulty is quickly surmountable, provided you take the time to understand your obstacles. A must-have!
