When Monster Hunter and Toukiden cross paths in a bar… It could look like a joke and yet that’s what this Wild Hearts makes you think. If Omega Force with Koei Tecmo at the time had not succeeded in this bet, let’s see if the association Koei Tecmo and EA are better.
Azuma, your merciless universe.
While everyone is living in peace and quiet. An evil is going to come to upset all this small calm. Kemono have arrived and are destroying everything in their path. Some kind of monster mixing animals and nature in XXL format. This is how the population was centralized in Minato, the last fortress of humanity.
We, we are going to land in all that without any valid reason at the base, but we are going to find ourselves to help the inhabitants. YES, the scenario is just there to say: hit a monster. A bit like Monster Hunter.
If graphically, the title is not super beautiful. It’s not what you want either. It’s better to have a title that is a bit dated, but fluid for the confrontations than a title that falls below 30 fps. Because you will have understood. You’ll have to punch the clock and continue the adventure and punch a monster again, etc., etc.
For your weapons and armor? Well you hit monsters too. Because yes, everything will require resources from the various monsters to improve your armor and weapons. Basically, we’re doing what a MH already does without changing anything.
It’s not Monster Hunter.
What we liked most about Wild Heart is that it is not an MH. We find confrontations much faster and more nervous than an MH. With an arsenal ranging from your basic weapons to your combat skills.
We forget about sleeping balls, flashes, traps… Here, we will find a basic system of kraft. And by combining a certain construction between them, we get a new defensive or offensive construction more powerful. Well, we will note however a big concern of Hitbox with respect to our character or monsters making some moves totally random.
So it’s not a Fortnite either. We are far from all kinds of constructions to fight. We will have to be satisfied with a bare minimum and that’s good. The goal is not to make a fortress around the monsters, but to have tools in combat quickly and hungry.
Finally, we note that Wild Hearts is a title that gives a little freshness to the genre and manages for a while to make us forget Monster Hunter. And that’s what we want from it. We are curious to see if the title will be entitled to updates or DLC. But above all, a more complete and accomplished sequel. Basically, we finally have a competitor to Monster Hunter.
