Sony today introduced the second generation of its ZV-1 model, which is completely new. A new member of the ZV line of vlog cameras, the ZV-1 II offers new features that users have been asking for to stay ahead of the curve. With a wider angle than the ZV-1, the ZV-1 II helps vloggers create more compelling narratives with superb image quality.

With a 1″ Exmor RS image sensor (approximately 20.1 effective megapixels), BIONZ X image processor and ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 18-50mm F1.8-4 lens, the ZV-1 II offers sophisticated features for creators of all levels. From the 18-50mm wide-angle lens that can frame everything from group selfies to tight interiors to dynamic recording of everyday scenes – to Multiple Face Recognition that detects multiple faces and automatically adjusts settings so they’re all sharp and clear in two- or three-person selfies, the ZV-1 II is an advanced vlogging camera in a compact travel case.

Comprehensive features for vloggers and video content creators

The ZV-1 II offers much-needed new features that will help creators capture better content. The18mm Ultra Wide Angle Zoom makes it easy to capture photogenic images of an entire scene, especially for videos shot at arm’s length. The 18-50mm optical zoom and Clear Image zoom magnify images smoothly, while reducing image quality loss, to change the field of view and provide a variety of framing options in videos.

  • 1-inch sensor with a Bokeh Switch that superbly blurs the background at the touch of a button.
  • Smart 3-capsule microphone – in Auto mode, the camera recognizes faces and objects and automatically adjusts the direction of the built-in microphone ([Front] or [All directions]). In manual mode, you can choose [Front] for selfies, [Rear] for video with narration, or [All directions]. The included windscreen ensures clear recording even outdoors. The wireless connection to the Multi Interface Shoe or the 3.5mm microphone jack allows easy connection of external microphones.
  • Cinematic vlog setting function to meet the demand for easy capture of cinematic videos with a vlog camera. It allows you to create impressive images with a single touch: press the function icon on the screen and the camera automatically adopts the CinemaScope format (2.35:1) and the 24 fps rate, identical to those used in the cinema. Then, fine-tune the result with the on-screen buttons by choosing from five STYLES and four AMBIANCES.
  • Creative rendering with 10 preset renderings to suit your creative desires and produce professional-looking images.
  • Auto Exposure with Face Priority and Soft Skin Effect automatically and immediately detects faces and adjusts exposure to optimize their brightness, regardless of the lighting. The Soft Skin effect softens skin and facial features while shooting.
  • Fast Hybrid AF System – even in 4K high definition, where precise focus is essential, the camera ensures images are sharp, thanks to the Fast Hybrid autofocus system already seen on the α series cameras. AF Transition Speed adjusts the responsiveness of the focus during video recording, and Subject Switching Sensitivity AF adjusts the autofocus based on the subject’s movement and environment. In addition, real-time Eye AF can accurately focus on humans or animals in both still images and video.
  • Product Presentation function – allows for convenient execution of product presentations, with smooth transitions between your face and the object you want to highlight.
  • S&Q shooting mode to go from 5x slow motion to 60x fast motion, to increase the impact of everyday scenes. Shooting rate and recording rate can now both be set on a single screen.
  • ISO 125-12800 sensitivity range – allows the camera to capture sharp images with reduced noise, even in low light.
  • Electronic image stabilization with Active Mode – allows you to capture content while moving or walking, especially useful for handheld shooting. Useful for both normal video and S&Q (slow motion) on the move.
  • Built-in ND filter – reduces exposure by up to 3 EV to create beautiful background bokeh, even in very bright environments.

Compact and lightweight, easy to carry, ergonomic and connected

The ZV-1 II is ideal for travel: compact and lightweight, it’s easy to carry in a pocket or small bag, despite its optical zoom. The ZV-1 II also supports a variety of shooting styles, with a tilting screen for selfies, an easy-to-hold body (and optional GP-VPT2BT grip), ergonomic button and control layout, and a front-mounted recording indicator. The screen display has been redesigned, with a thick, prominent red frame that makes it obvious when recording is in progress. And it charges easily with its USB Type-C plug.

For high-quality live streaming, simply plug the ZV-1 II into a PC or smartphone with a commercially available USB cable (not included) to use as a webcam. Make your videos more elegant for video conferencing and live broadcasts with Creative Appearances, which enhance skin tone and adjust hues. Faces appear brighter and clearer (auto-exposure with Face Priority) and focus is fixed on the eyes (real-time Eye AF).

Accessible and sustainable design

In addition to Sony’s commitment to a sustainable future with global initiatives such as « Road to Zero » and the goal of renewable energy by 2030, the ZV-1 II was specifically designed with sustainability in mind. Recycled materials, including SORPLAS, are used extensively for the device’s housing, reducing its environmental impact without sacrificing functionality. The « original material mix », Sony’s exclusive recycled paper that does not use plastic and is easy to recycle, is used for the individual packaging. Based on materials such as bamboo, sugar cane and recycled paper recovered from the market, it combines environmental protection with high quality.

The ZV-1 II incorporates accessibility features that make it easy for anyone to enjoy shooting and reading, including a screen reader for the visually impaired. When active, menu text is read aloud. It can be activated via the « Screen reader » option in the « Settings » tab. Its volume can be adjusted in the « Sound Options » settings. In addition, the ZV-1 II incorporates a number of functions designed to achieve perfect focus on different subjects, such as real-time Eye AF, which can recognize and automatically focus on « Human » or « Animal », or real-time Tracking. The Focus Magnifier and Emphasis functions simplify manual focusing, and functions such as Touch AF, Touch Tracking, and Touch Shooting allow the user to focus on a subject and take images simply by touching the screen. ZV-1 II Accessibility Features (list of specifications): Screen Reader, Touch Exposure, Focus Magnifier, Edge Enhancement, Real-time Eye AF, Real-time Tracking, Touch Focus, Touch Tracking, Touch Shooting, Swivel LCD, and Custom Function.
